1979 Aston Martin V8 Volante - Dash

1963 Chevrolet Corvair Coupe project

This is a Chevrolet Corvair, first registered in 1963. It would make an ideal home restoration to end up with a rare, practical up and coming collectable American Classic.  Not as large as the normal Yank Tank, but large enough, especially if you have a family, about the size of a Vauxhall Cavalier, small by American standards. It is one of several Corvairs we have at present. The car is complete, but it will require some welding in the usual places, front floor pans, wheel arch corners, to name a few areas.   The interior, seats etc., are in pretty good condition and would clean up.   New carpets would be required.    The engine is low mileage and original, the cylinder heads will require renewal, as the vanes have disintegrated badly.   I would have a second hand pair of heads available, but they are not expensive to buy new as I just purchased a pair from the States for $400.00 and this included them fitted with new valves, springs etc. (and lead free).  Spares for these vehicles are readily available and well supported via the Internet from our cousins in the States; they are not expensive and are here within 4 or 5 days.   We have become quite conversant with Corvairs recently and would support anyone with advice/guidance who wanted to venture into these unique, rear engine drive, flat six, air cooled (same concept as the Beetle).   Do not believe what Ralph Nader said!
